Topic 1: How can the food and water security in countries threatened by desertification be ensured?

The importance of implementing sustainable ways to cope with the growing desertification in both developed and developing countries is the main topic of this topic. This overwhelming crisis threatens the well-being of populations, putting food and water resources under pressure and thus depleting their quality of life. The lack of proper water distribution, as well as the countless reckless agricultural models — particularly prevalent in less developed countries — have put a strain on the environment. We now must unite to provide cost-effective measures to counter this worldwide issue.

Topic 2: What agricultural model to feed a constantly increasing population while limiting deforestation? Farmland now makes up 44.10% of the world’s land. Feeding a population that is expanding at an exponential rate while halting deforestation is one of the most challenging problems that requires immediate attention. Given that there will likely be nearly 9.8 billion people on the planet by 2050, creative and sustainable farming methods are needed to ensure food security without harming the environment, as deforestation currently causes the world to lose 10 million hectares of forest annually. All countries are faced with this issue, although some are more affected than others.

Resolution: Our delegates found innovative approaches to combat this issue. Notably, the delegation of Turkey suggested that nations provide financial assistance to deprived rural families so they can purchase food directly from local producers. This would enable farmers to earn more money, allow poor families to purchase cheaper and healthier food, support regional rural economies, and reduce the monopoly held by food distribution companies.
